Pine trees of various species are found all over the world. In fact, there are so many varieties of pine that it's pretty much impossible to generalize very much about this tree. It's a conifer (evergreen) that produces sizable cones, and needles in bundles between 2 and 5. Most pine trees grow very tall and very straight, which has led to them being valuable in the lumber industry.

The pine tree is one of the 7 sacred trees of the Druids. In the Celtic 'horoscope' of trees, pine corresponds to birthdays between Feb 19-28, as well as Aug 24-Sep 2.
The chief associations of pine are fertility, protection, prosperity and exorcism. Burning pine needles can help to banish negative energy and purify rooms in your home. You can also make a cleansing bath with the needles in your bathwater. Pine cones can be carried as charms for fertility. Pine branches make great besoms when cleasning outdoor ritual space.
Foliage from the pine tree was cut down and used during the sacred feasts of Cybele (last 2 weeks in March). Pine is sacred to Her, as is fir and oak.
If pine is unavailable, juniper can be substituted.
